Dorian Stefan Dumitru is a Master’s student at Polytechnique Montréal, co-supervised by Prof. David Melancon and Prof. Ilyass Tabiai. His research focuses on the design and manufacturing of deployable composite panels that integrate electromagnetic tethers as fiber reinforcements within satellite structures. At end-of-life, thermal degradation of the matrix passively deploys the fibers into pre-programmed shapes, generating electromagnetic drag to deorbit the satellite — addressing the UN Space 2030 sustainability agenda. His work was presented at the CSME-CFDSC-CSR 2025 International Congress.
